Dragons and yetis and orcs, oh my!

For those used to sugar plums and candy canes, a game full of such fantastical creatures seems too serious and for ‘gamers’ only. With 50M dedicated fans around the world, Blizzard wanted to entice the next 50M to play its mobile card game: Hearthstone.

Unlike its muse World of Warcraft, the game Hearthstone is one where wit and whimsy go hand to hand. We developed a campaign that brings that whimsy out in a sort of self-deprecating humor to let the sugar fairies know it’s just fun and games in the tavern.

WE MADE A MEME

After the commercial aired, tbh, a lot of the core fans (whom we were not targeting) were upset, enraged, embarrassed. Understandable when you parody their beloved characters.

Others however, latched on and Guac Boy was born (Here's a play by play analysis) and became a meme within the Hearthstone community.
It became another insult to fling, relatable character, and meant to live among the greats. Leeroy Jenkins!
